Twilight - 2 Disc Special Edition [DVD] [2008]
This is the most fantastic film i have seen in ages. It's a love story that keeps you gripped, a little slow to start but The basis of the story is A young girl bella moves from Arizona where she lives with her mum to be with her dad. She starts a new school and becomes drwn to a young lad called edward who turns out to be a vampire - He and his family have trained themselves to resist eating humans but there are still BAD Vampires and this story shows the love that grows between them and Edwards fight to protect Bella from the vampire elements! Very Heart wrenching at times and something that really makes a change is that it is a really nice film! But you are left at the end awaiting the next story! Even my husband loved it! Based on the book by John Boyne, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas didn’t really get the box office recognition it deserves on its theatrical release, struggling to find a foothold amidst a stampede of blockbusters. But this is a film that, surely, is ripe for discovery on DVD.

Directed with care and diligence by Mark Herman, whose CV includes the excellent Brassed Off! and Little Voice, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is set during the Second World War, in and around a Nazi concentration camp. It tells its tale through the eyes of two young boys. One is the son of the camp’s commandant, while the other is wearing the striped pyjamas of the title.

The two boys meet and ultimately befriend one another, and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas tells the difficult story of their companionship. It does it extremely well, too, careful to understate proceedings and demonstrate a restraint that serves the subject matter well. It’s also quite a lean film, and one boasting excellent performances, including David Thewlis as the aforementioned commandant.

If The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas has a problem or two, they pale in com...

Just loved this film. The actors were great. Both boys were brilliant.
Although sad it hits home the story of the holocaust.

Average rating of 5/5 Brilliant And Bold!, 2009-06-21
A superb piece of film-making from Bryan Singer and starring powerhouse Tom Cruise, Bill Nighy, Terence Stamp and even Eddie Izzard.

The story of Operation: Valkyire was the assassination attempt against Adolph Hitler, bringing down the Nazi party from the inside and saving Europe from 'Hitler's Germany'. Led by Colonel Von Staffenbury (Cruise) and a band of trusted fellow miliraty powers, the story is as gripping as it is thrilling as the operation is planned, plotted and executed.

As I read somewhere about the film, it is not so much the final outcome, but the details in what leads the plan TO the outcome. With brilliant cinematography, wonderful acting from a top-notch cast and a really tense and exciting story, this is a very different kind of war film which is sure to please and surprise!

There was an understandable mix of emotions bubbling to the surface when the final episode of Battlestar Galactica was finally broadcast in the first half of 2009. On the one hand, this has proven to be vintage science fiction television, easily one of the most ambitious, daring and flat-out successful TV projects in recent times. And on the other, it’s all over, with this box set bringing together the final episodes of the show.

Inevitably, this final season wraps up many of the mysteries and narrative questions of Battlestar Galactica, none of which we intend to spoil here. The fate of humanity, the hunt for the fabled earth and the further revelations about the Cylons are packed in, and the standard throughout this final season remains sky high.

The actual ending itself, as it happens, proved quite divisive, but arguably that’s part of the strength of Battlestar Galactica. Because this is a show that, right to the end, doesn’t take the easy road, and delivers some of the most intelligent, dark drama of recent years. It’s a staggering achievement, and this final season, along with the entirety of the show itself, is set to still be talked abou...

If you haven't seem Battlestar Galactica, then what treat is in store for you. This is not only one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever, it is probably one of the finest TV shows of recent years (by the way is it just me or have american made TV show improved leaps and bounds lately...Dexter, Dollhouse and the fantastic "The wire" being just three!)
This, the final series (or half series) requires viewing of the previous series. With that said, what an ending.....superb acting, excellent script. This represents TV at its best. Enjoy

Average rating of 5/5 Brilliant new comedy, 2009-06-19
This a gem of a new comedy about 4 kids that are not cool enough to be popular and not geek enough to be nerds are they are desperate for one thing , sex. It offers a very good portrait of adolesence mixed with an excellent sense of humour.

After his parents divorce Will is moved from a nice private school to a new comprehensive where he teams up with another 3 six-formers. The show was voted by the British Comedy Guide website as the "Best New British TV Sitcom 2008.

The dialogue ,plot and soundtrack are brilliant and a pure joy to watch.

The extras include deleted scenes and a video diary of the main actors.

I wasn't sure what to expect before I watched this movie and I was nicely surprised by the story. The story is written and a reflective and almost poetic way and touched many controversial issues ,including the holocaust and some viewers might find disturbing.

The main actors , Winslet and Kross , provide intense performances and are delight to watch. The direction is excellent and perhaphs the film's only flaw was to open in the same year as slumdog millionaire.

Average rating of 5/5 Can't wait to watch it again, 2009-06-23
This is the kind of box set that I find I have to ration - otherwise I would watch the whole thing in a weekend. That said, we did watch each episode in fairly quick succession, as the plot is so complicated, we found we needed to keep going before we forgot what was going on!

A fantastic conspiracy-based twisty-turny tale, and realistic characters played by a star cast. I thought the casting of Bill Nighy as James McEvoy's dad was inspired. John Simm, as ever, pure genius, but every perfomance in this series adds depth, drama and realism. Can't wait for a thoroughly wet weekend, so I have a good excuse to sit indoors and watch it all again.

Average rating of 2/5 Charmless, 2009-06-14
"Quantum of Solace" was massively hyped before it was released in cinemas last year and I had expected it to be a decent film, but sadly it was a complete let down. For most of the opening half hour I hadn't a clue what was going on or who all the main characters were and only as the film wore on did I begin to get the gist of the plot. The film is laden down with car chases, rooftop chases ,boat chases and pyrotechnics. It is humourless and the Bond played by Daniel Craig has been turned into a charmless, emotionless, murderous thug. The plot ,as it is ,is relatively dull; a secret organisation consisting of leading industrial and political players have agreed to stage a coup in Bolivia to install a military dictator in return for being given control over that landlocked country's water supply. Bond tries to stop this from happening and destroy this organisation who were responsible for the death of one of his previous girlfriends from "Casino Royale". Indeed "Quantum of Solace" presumes knowledge of this film as it appears to follow on directly from it. I saw "Casino Royale" a few years ago and could remember little about it so that made it all the more difficult to get into this unpleasant little film. Another reviewer has mentioned that the film "Taken" was vastly superior to "Quantum of Solace " and I would concur; Liam Neeson as the next James Bond anyone ?

Director: Danny Boyle

Danny Boyle (Sunshine) directed this wildly energetic, Dickensian drama about the desultory life and times of an Indian boy whose bleak, formative experiences lead to an appearance on his country's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Jamal (played as a young man by Dev Patel) and his brother are orphaned as children, raising themselves in various slums and crime-ridden neighorhoods and falling in, for a while, with a monstrous gang exploiting children as beggars and prostitutes. Driven by his love for Latika (Freida Pinto), Jamal, while a teen, later goes on a journey to rescue her from the gang's clutches, only to lose her again to another oppressive fate as the lover of a notorious gangster.

Running parallel with this dark yet irresistible adventure, told in flashback vignettes, is the almost inexplicable sight of Jamal winning every challenge on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?," a strong showing that leads to a vicious police interrogation. As Jamal explains how he knows the answer to every question on the show as the result of harsh events in his knockabout life, the chaos of his existence gains shape, perspective and soulfulness. The film's violence is o...

I saw this film at the cinema and thought it was brilliant. A really gritty film yet with a fairy tale element to it. Great lead performances. Loved it.
