Apart from Curb your Enthusiasm this is probably the funniest laugh out loud tv production I have seen in a long while. I caught bits of it now and again and was sufficiently intrigued to buy the series. It has everything, romance, pathos, humorous situations, and two plot lines that never quite meet in the middle. How this wasn't a huge hit is a real puzzle to me, possibly the time just wasn't right.Alice in wonderland it certainly is. Everyone that has watched it on dvd couldn't resist just watching another episode. That's recommendation enough.
Embarassingly Funny and Deeply Touching, 2008-08-25
This is a remakable piece of television. It mixes two storylines of people perfect for each other who may be destined never to meet.
The writing is genius (even more obviously so on second viewing)and the acting from a superb cast is pitch perfect.
You want the two leads to get together to save each other so very much it's totally compelling.
Buy it now because you will want to see it several times...

This is superior quality TV. It combines finely crafted drama that has you really caring about the characters, with laugh-out-loud comedy situations that could only come from the pen of David Renwick (One Foot in the Grave, Jonathan Creek). I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Love's Laughs Located, 2009-07-11
The combination of the BBC and David Renwick - need I say more? The critically, but not viewing figure acclaimed first series of this excellent comedy drama continues to impress even after a second viewing. It's the story of Alice, a cosmetics account manager in a London department store who's thoughtful, intelligent and most of all, looking for that special someone to share her life with. Running in parallel with Alice's life is Gil's - an American comedy writer living in rural splendour whose neuroses stand in the way of him finding 'the one'. There are also a number of other characters, such as Alice's colleagues, dippy Milly and seductive Cleo, Gil's rapacious neighbour Irene and his cynical agent Lloyd.
The thing I most enjoyed about this series was the skilful way that Renwick managed to get inside the character's heads and the intricate plot devices he uses to great effect. There is also a healthy chunk of surreal pathos and bleak humour which is very much a trait of his work. I'd recommend this series to anyone who enjoys quality drama - it's a real treat and Michael Landes is gorgeous - such a shame he didn't appear in series two!
