Amazon.co.uk review Like the bestselling book upon which it's based, The Kite Runner will haunt the viewer long after the film is over. A tale of childhood betrayal, innocence, harsh reality, and dreamy memory, The Kite Runner faces good and evil--and the path between them, though often blurry and sorrowfully relative. Director Marc Forster (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) presents a painterly vision of Afghanistan before the Soviet tanks, before the Taliban--lush, verdant, fertile--in its landscape and in its people and their history and hopes. The story follows two young boys' friendship, tested beyond endurance, and the haunting of their adult selves by what happened in their youth--and what horrors befall their country in the meantime. The performances of the two boys--Zekeria Ebrahimi (Amir) and Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada (Hassan)--are the film's strongest, unforced and gently evocative. The penance paid by their adult selves is foreshadowed, but never predictable--and the metaphor of innocence lost, a common theme in Forster's work, keeps the film, like the title kites, truly aloft. --A.T. kite runner, 2010-08-20 having read the book first i thought the film was just as good but with little bits missing. This did not put me off the film which i thought was brilliant
Social complexities., 2010-09-03 A remarkable film which illustrates some of the complexities of a society that is bitterly divided.Even more divided on the course it should take into an even more complex future.
Doesn't quite live up to the book, 2010-08-14 After reading The Kite Runner and it being one of my favourite books, i decided to watch the movie. The movie was not a bad adaption of the book but not a great one either and i think its one of those, where if you haven't read the book you'd probably enjoy it more. The film felt like a fast-forward of the book and some of the important parts where missed out. It just didn't manage to capture the beauty and emotion of the book. However, I thought the young boy playing Hassan was a gorgeous little boy and was good in the film, as was the young boy playing Amir but i didn't think any of the other actors where that good. If your thinking of watching the film or reading the book, id read the book first. A good movie but sadly it doesn't live up to the book.
Great film, does not disappoint after reading the book, 2010-08-08 I bought The Kite Runner DVD after reading and really enjoying the book. I was doubtful of the film as in general I usually find I enjoy a book then am disappointed by the film, but in this case both are as good as one another. If you enjoyed the book, I'd recommend the film.
10 out of 10, 2010-08-27 it would be a shame for anybody to miss this film. they dont come any better
