Amazon.co.uk Review A staggering surprise success at the box office just before Christmas 2007, the reason for the popularity of Alvin and the Chipmunks soon becomes clear. Not only is it a new adventure for a popular set of characters of old, it’s also a fun, breezy family movie, that the kids in particular will enjoy. Starring Jason Lee (of My Name Is Earl fame), Alvin and the Chipmunks mixes in live action and CGI chipmunks (Alvin, Simon and Theodore) in a story that sees that moved from their natural habitat into the midst of the big city. The plot then becomes as predictable as you’d expect, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had anyway. For Alvin and the Chipmunks has plenty in its corner. It’s funny, first and foremost, and moves along at a good pace, never forgetting that its prime job is to entertain its audience. And that’s something it easily manages to do, wrapping everything up by remembering not to outstay its welcome, either. Considering that Alvin and the Chipmunks enjoy a legion of fans that stretch back decades, it’s perhaps not a surprise after all that the film enjoyed the success it did. But what’s pleasing is that the spirit of the source material, in spite of its contemporary setting, is adhered to, and there’s fun for all in the end product. --Jon Foster

Chipmunks DVD, 2010-03-11 A big hit with the younger members of my family. Older children not so keen!
alvin and chipmunks film, 2010-02-23 brill film for all the family. my 4 year old daughter loved it and watched it twice - straight after each other.
ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, 2010-03-05 A great family film, bought for grandaughters for half term. I sat with them and enjoyed it as much as them.
Alvin and the Chipmunks, 2010-02-12 I bought this as a reward for good behaviour for my daughter. She absolutely loves it and now wants the Squeakwel. Good family viewing for adults too. Watched about 8 times in the last three weeks.
Light-hearted fun and suitable for young and old alike, 2010-01-27 A film that cleverly combines CGI animation with real people, the storyline goes like this: three talkative chipmunks with a musical talent live in a tree that is cut down and sent to Los Angeles. That's where they meet down-on-his-luck musician David, and after wrecking his house the four of them combine to form a musical team, with David doing the songwriting and the chipmunks performing the songs. Their struggle for stardom is held back by their unscrupulous record executive, who wants to break up and exploit this little family for his own personal gain.
This is a film for children of all ages I guess, but their parents won't mind watching alongside. My children were laughing from start to finish and loved every minute, something that could not be said of the DVD they had seen the day before (Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs). This was a successful purchase, both girls nodding enthusiastically and without hesitation when I asked them if they liked it, if they wanted to see it again and again, and if they wanted me to buy the sequel (not yet released on DVD as of Jan 2010). They both gave it 'four and a half stars' - I am giving it a comfortable four because I reserve five stars for the really outstanding and exceptional. No hesitation in recommending it however, it had me laughing almost as much as the children so it gets the thumbs-up from me.
