Amazon.co.uk Review A staggering surprise success at the box office just before Christmas 2007, the reason for the popularity of Alvin and the Chipmunks soon becomes clear. Not only is it a new adventure for a popular set of characters of old, it’s also a fun, breezy family movie, that the kids in particular will enjoy. Starring Jason Lee (of My Name Is Earl fame), Alvin and the Chipmunks mixes in live action and CGI chipmunks (Alvin, Simon and Theodore) in a story that sees that moved from their natural habitat into the midst of the big city. The plot then becomes as predictable as you’d expect, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had anyway. For Alvin and the Chipmunks has plenty in its corner. It’s funny, first and foremost, and moves along at a good pace, never forgetting that its prime job is to entertain its audience. And that’s something it easily manages to do, wrapping everything up by remembering not to outstay its welcome, either. Considering that Alvin and the Chipmunks enjoy a legion of fans that stretch back decades, it’s perhaps not a surprise after all that the film enjoyed the success it did. But what’s pleasing is that the spirit of the source material, in spite of its contemporary setting, is adhered to, and there’s fun for all in the end product. --Jon Foster

Very entertaining for my 6 yr old son, 2010-04-13 Bought for my 6yr old for Easter. Has been played a few times & all his friends want to watch it too. Great price.
Alvin and the Chipmunks, 2010-05-08 Bought this for my two young boys aged 5 and 3 and they love the film. Have now bought Alvin & The Chipmunks the Squeakuel and my boys keep watching them over and over again. Fantastic DVD to keep children entertained for hours on end!
Hell on a DVD, 2010-06-09 Jason Lee, what were you thinking?! From the sublime My Name Is Earl to this?
Still, my nine year old loves it, but she still believes in fairies and junk like that...
It's just all that high-pitched inanity - drives me mad.
hilarious fun, 2010-06-25 I bought this for my children. It's sooo funny. My kids love the film, as do I. The dvd was sent out quickly and well packaged. The extras on the DVD are really fun. Great family buy.
Family fun and entertainment, 2010-05-25 When I ordered this movie, I wasn't sure what to expect. The reviews on Amazon were good, but generally the film had been panned by critics as one of the worst films of 2007, despite it's major financial success. Bah, just shows how much the critics know!
I finally got the chance to see this film the other night, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Fun, cute, inoffensive and pure family entertainment. (OK, a couple of bathroom jokes, but they were not taken to any extremes)
There was humour where it applied in the movie, but also some moments of emotion - such as when Theodore had a nightmare and Dave let him stay with him for the night.
To be honest, the only problem I might have with the movie is that the "boys" were sometimes hard to understand with their squeaky voices... still, the actors enunciated their lines pretty well, so generally this wasn't a problem.
Anyway, long and short of it is that this movie is unjustly underrated and definitely worth the watch.
