Average rating of 4/5 Incredible Value, 2010-05-09
I live in the United States and about a two years ago bought a "region free" DVD player, since then I've been getting video sets from the UK and I am amazed at the value, the complete Sharpe set would cost almost 5 times as much over here. My only complaint would be that I wish it had an episode guide booklet with the set. But the quality is first rate, the packaging is great as well.

Average rating of 5/5 Adventure, romance, history and fun: Sharpe better than James Bond!!, 2010-06-18
Be cautious! Once you will have started to watch this boxset, you will not be able to stop ...My favourite episodes are Sharpe's Sword, Sharpe's Enemy, Sharpe's Eagle, Sharpe's Regiment.

Average rating of 5/5 Sharpe Classic Collection, 2010-06-23

It was without doubt, the Best thing I ever did, to buy this absolutely Brilliant series. The battle scenes fighting the French, are So authentic. The Characters/actors performances are wonderfully acted out. Intrigue, Action...humour, it's got the Lot! I've never enjoyed viewing anything quite so much as this...and I've watched a lot of series and films on DVD, in my time. Sean Bean is marvellous in his role as Sharpe. My wife loves Sharpe also. Outstanding!!!

Average rating of 5/5 Sharpe as a Baker's Bayonet, 2010-04-25
Working my way through this set all good stuff - had to buy Sharpe's Peril and Revenge separately - but hey ho - didn't cost an arm and a leg and worth every penny so far. Missed the original TV series ( being abroad) and repeats were chronologically untidy. Now I have time, I am going through them and savouring each one. Historically, correct(for most part), thanks to Bernard Cornwell, with the time captured precisely in costume and equipment, I think all households should have set. Not only does it throw light on an important period in our history, but it also reminds us of what quality programmes used to be dished up on TV. The box set is well presented and with careful use, should maintain it's condition and appeal should you wish to sell them on.

Average rating of 4/5 That'll do, pig., 2010-07-03
I'm sure James Cromwell won't mind me quoting some of his longest line, but his name does look a bit like Bernard Cornwell, if you stand back and squint a bit...

This is as decent a low-ish budget TV Series of a book as you could want. Sure, it's not exactly as in the books, but if you try that, you end up with the first two Harry Potter films.

The feel of the books and the characters from them is pretty good, and all the actors pick up the parts really well. Sean Bean gets away with being the most Yorkshire / Lancashire / generally North - Londoner ever, The Chosen Men are good, Patrick Harper is pretty much bang on, except possibly in stature, and Wellington and his Intelligence sidekicks are clearly enjoying themselves. I do like a well-played cameo, and Julian Fellowes' Prince of Wales was brilliant as "Dick. Can I call you Dick?" Sharpe's er...biggest fan.

See I even resisted the temptation to say "Camp Follower". Damn...

Michael Cochrane's Simmerson was excellent. He really got the villainous "Harumphmmmm" down. And refreshingly got his comeuppance, by way of being disgraced, stabbed and kicked in the groin a lot, which is always good.

If I were to offer any criticism, it would certainly not be with the budget or the tiny band of extras masquerading as huge armies. It would have to go to Elizabeth "Liz" Hurley.

Good grief...

I know that there was some bodice-ripping involved, but honestly, it really didn't entirely make up for the monotone delivery and patent lack of anything remotely resembling thespy skills. It was like she'd wandered onto the set by accident. Surely there were read-throughs or auditions involved?

Baffled.

So, if you were to twist my arm for a conclusion, I'd say get it. It's Really Quite Good, and nowhere as disappointing as it could have been, or would be if it was done today, with Johnny Depp as the inevitable automatic choice for Sharpe. (Or maybe Harper, once the rewrites are through...) Danny Elfman would murder the theme too, so he would.
