Flushed Away is a rip-roaring nautical adventure with a twist: The heroes are a pair of rodents braving the sewers underneath London. Roddy (voiced by Hugh Jackman) is an upper-crust house-mouse who finds himself flushed into the subterranean sewers. Eager to return to his posh home, he enlists the help of a boat-captain rat named Rita (Kate Winslet), who has troubles of her own; namely the kingpin of the underworld, the Toad (Ian McKellen), and his henchmen including the French mercenary Le Frog (Jean Reno). While technically Flushed Away could be considered part of the wave of celebrity-voiced, anthropomorphic-animal movies that hit in 2005-2006 (Madagascar, Over the Hedge, The Wild, etc.), it doesn't inspire the same sense of déjà vu. For one thing, its voice actors are less recognizable than the likes of Bruce Willis and Chris Rock. For another, its look is very distinctive. Like Nick Park's Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, it's a joint production of DreamWorks Animation and Aardman Features, and although Park isn't involved, it retains his trademark blocky look of clay animation. But animati...

Glorious 39, 2010-08-31 This is a great film which gives you insight into the complexities of life during the second world war. It also explores the fragilities of humanity; how unwittingly people can become caught up in things that they have no knowledge of, or control over. It is really worth watching.

With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the London Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Having mastered the genre as the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary, it appears that first-time director Richard Curtis is just like his screenplays: he just wants to be loved, and he'll go to absurdly appealing lengths to win our affection. With Love Actually, Curtis orchestrates a minor miracle of romantic choreography, guiding a brilliant cast of stars and newcomers as they careen toward love and holiday cheer in London, among them the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who's smitten with his caterer (Martine McCutcheon); a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who's desperately attracted to a colleague. There's more--too much more--as Curtis wraps his Christmas gift with enough happy endings to sweeten a dozen other movies. Th...
Great film, bit of a chick-flick, 2010-08-11 Love this film. Love the way the stories intertwine. Love the way it celebrates Love, in all it's forms.
A feel-good film that some may find very soppy, but hey, i like it and so does my husband. Perfect for cuddling up on the sofa with some chocolates :)

Brill Films, 2010-07-23 Wasn't really into this genre until it hit the TV screen and although I'm not hooked I really enjoyed these three films. Just enough gore and a plot line that becomes increasingly more plausible (Ha Ha)! some of the CGI scenes are a bit 'obvious' but doesn't detract from the overall effects. Music certainly enhances the experience, overall recommended !! Looking forward to the next instalment.

With the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (memorably portrayed by Johnny Depp) earning legions of fans right across the globe, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy has proven to be one of the most popular series of films in recent times. Fortunately, there’s good reason too. The trilogy starts off with the best of the three films. The Curse Of The Black Pearl is a superb piece of blockbuster movie making, delivering lots of laughs, some fabulous set pieces and a core of good, old-fashioned swashbuckling action. With a terrific supporting cast, led by the likes of Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, its running time simply zips by in a flash, and there’s plenty of incentive to hit the play button again once the credits roll. The second movie in the series, Dead Man’s Chest was more commercially successful, but it’s not quite as strong a film. Nonetheless, there’s still plenty to enjoy, including Bill Nighy’s stunning Davy Jones (the special effects there are something to behold). And it earns extra bonus points for a terrific final twist in the end reel. And then we arrive at the closing part of the trilogy, At World...
swashbuckling fun, 2010-08-13 Very enjoyable swashbuckling fun, you can watch one after another if you have the time. The music is great, the characters larger than life. It's pure escapism. The price is brilliant too. Can't fault it. Love it!!!

A major British hit, a lorryload of laughs and some sparkling action? We’ll have some of that. It’s fair to say that Hot Fuzz proves that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s brilliant Shaun Of The Dead was no one-off, serving up a superbly crafted British homage to the Hollywood action movie. Deliberately set in the midst of a sleepy, quaint English village of Sandford, Pegg’s Nicholas Angel is sent there because, bluntly, he’s too good at his job, and he’s making his city colleagues look bad. The proverbial fish out of water, Angel soon discovers that not everything in Sandford is quite as it seems, and joins forces with Nick Frost’s lumbering Danny Butterman to find out what’s what. Hot Fuzz then proceeds to have a rollicking good time in both tipping its hat to the genre films that are clearly its loving inspiration, and coming up with a few tricks of its own. It does comedy better than action, with plenty of genuine laugh-out-loud moments, but it’s no slouch either when the tempo needs raising. One of the many strong cards it plays is its terrific cast, which includes former 007 Timothy Dalton, Bill Nighy, Bill Bailey, Paddy Consi...
Grat movie filmed in Somerset, 2010-06-21 Excellent film and if you are coming to Glastonbury you should know the movie was set in an English village, but filmed in the beautiful City of Wells, Somerset. The Somerfield supermarket in the film was replaced, last week by a Co-Op store.

Astro Boy (DVD), 2010-08-20 Excellent film, even though it is based on the Japenese Manga comic strip, the originality of the story has been kept, if slightly less darker than the original. I was very impressed with the film which exceeded my expectations. My boys (9, 7 & 6) loved it and have watched it several times since purchased.
