A brilliant film!, 2008-03-10
I watched this film and was greatly impressed. Kirk, Michael and Cameron Douglas make a great combination. I always enjoy any film with Michael in it and this film has some great moments in it ranging from very funny and inspiring to ones of sadness and reflection. It deals with many issues affecting family life and in my opinion was very successfully done. I can't recommend it enough.

Super Troopers is a dumb-and-dumber cop comedy starring the members of comedy quintet Broken Lizard, which will no doubt be unfamiliar to the majority of audiences this side of the Atlantic. Although don't let that put you off what is a no-brainer, but often very funny cop caper. The bungling patrolmen are of course hopelessly inept at solving real police work and instead spend more time battling with their nasty rivals in another police force. But when budget cuts loom, the boys have to become real cops for once to prove their worth, not just to their frustrated and long suffering boss but to each other. The gags come thick and fast and the sheer enthusiasm and timing of the cast ensure that, although very old fashioned in its comedic sensibilities, it remains a consistently entertaining and stupid in equal measure. Watch out also for a small cameo by formers 70's super heroine Lynda Wonder Woman Carter as the mayor. On the DVD: Super Troopers is packed with extras that belie its limited run and modest success at the box office. There are two commentaries by cast and director, 17 outtakes with optional commentary that are as good as anything that...
Great, 2009-12-24 Fanatastic film. I was already familiar with the film (and a huge "Broken Lizard") so I knew what I was purchasing. Having said that the item was clearly displayed with all the important details (like age certificate and a brief description). There were also good links to other films associated with the purchase of this one. It arrived in great condition and it arrived on time. There was no damage to the packaging either.

A fitting ending as the series goes out on a high, 2009-02-09 Daria, Jane and everyone else in their year consider their post-school options while Mr DiMartino helps Mr O'Neil (try to) escape the clutches of the marriage-hungry Ms Barch. Ending with the best ever acceptance speech in history, Daria doesn't let you down with her honest take on life.

Innocuous, innocent and somewhat idiotic, Disney's bubbleheaded road-movie comedy Bubble Boy plays as a farcical remake of the 1976 cult TV-movie melodrama The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. Jake Gyllenhaal is the good-hearted innocent raised in a sort of human Habitrail of plastic rooms and rubber tunnels. To win back the girl of his dreams (Marley Shelton), he steps out of his indoor greenhouse and into a homemade Ziplock bubble suit. It's the usual story: naive innocent bounces down the highway like a beach ball with legs and wins over the wacky supporting cast of soft-hearted bikers, zombie-like teenage cultists and orphaned "freaks" through purity and pluck. The premise wears thin after a while, but Gyllenhaal keeps the film bounding along with goofy innocence and energetic eagerness. Swoosie Kurtz costars as his religious-zealot clinging mom. Watch for Fabio in an inspired cameo. --Sean Axmaker On the DVD: Bubble Boy contains a surprising amount of special features for what is essentially a B-movie comedy. These include a long winded multi-interview about the main star of the film, the Bubble suit itself; a director's diary, charting the eve...

Finally, a chick flick for guys (reviewed from a guy's POV), 2010-08-23 Any guy who has had his heart crushed and destroyed will enjoy this movie. The structure of the film is very clever; the script is moving and intelligent; and the acting is incredible. The looks that sweep across Joseph Gordon-Levitt's face as he gazes at Summer ... wow! He really is in love with this girl. And the pain he feels ... you feel it too. All told from the guy's point of view.
I was choked up several times during the film by this amazing young man's acting and by the story that unfolded through its flash-forwards and flash-backs. The character of Summer is a vile piece of work, and there are many guys (like me) who has had his heart broken in the past by such a creature. You get the impression the film's writer has also gone through a relationship like this, making the film somewhat autobiographical. The character of Tom is so sensitive and sweet that he is destined to have his heart broken. Both characters are very close to real people everyone would know.
So when your girlfriend suggests you both watch this film, you may get more enjoyment from it than she does.

500 Days of Summer is like the American Apparel of movies, in that tries really hard to be hip--so hard it sometimes evokes an involuntary cringe. The perfect soundtrack (indie-pop infused with cleverly ironic 80’s hits), the smart cinematography, the occasionally broken fourth wall… It’s a natural progression from mid-00’s “youth-culture” flicks like Garden State and it does a good job rounding out the decade. Everything in this dramedy resembles a music video and the characters are twentysomethings once again not living up to their full potential. 500 Days of Summer is touted as being really unique and original--it’s not. But that’s not to say that it’s not worth watching; it is, and mostly because of the leads. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel play a couple whose relationship story is told through a series of out-of-order flashbacks. The non-linear storytelling means we hop moment to moment from sweet, romantic and fun to crushingly desperate and sad, because the ultimate point here is that even when we believe we may have found The One, said soulmate might not feel the same way. Gordon-Levitt is an exciting ...

Johnny Knoxville (Jackass, A Dirty Shame) stars as a man who pretends to be mentally challenged so he can fix the Special Olympics. This morally dubious premise (the movie goes to great lengths to be sure you understand how appalling it is) is not as inflammatory as it could be--The Ringer is careful not to mock its mentally challenged characters. This is sometimes a source of strength, as some of the funniest jokes come from the perspective of the athletes--for example, a group of the other athletes recognize that Steve (Knoxville) is not the high-functioning mentally disabled guy he pretends to be, but they go along with the masquerade and even help Steve because they can't stand the snotty reigning champion. But this respectfulness also makes the movie feel cautious and inhibited (one imagines there's a wealth of un-PC jokes that got cut out of the script so it could pass muster with the Special Olympics, who gave the movie its blessing). As a result, the movie's real plot turns out to be a love story, as Steve falls for one of the Special Olympics volunteers (Katherine Heigl, Romy and Michelle: In the Beginning) and has to find sneaky ways to undermine her ...
Excellent film, 2010-07-07 Working in the world of those with learning disabilities I approached this film when released with great caution after reading the reviews of The American Downs Syndrome Association and Mencap in the UK, so I gave it a wide berth vowing never to watch it.
Whilst working on a project in relation towards those with a learning disability being accepted in the Paralympics in 2012 I was pointed in the films direction again to clear up a point on Special Olympics.
At first I sat and cringed as only Brian Cox can make you, but then relised that this has got to be the best film ever about those with special needs.
If you are not in the scene you won't enjoy it, you will be totally upset and if you are PC, your foot will be going through the TV screen big style, however, if you work in that world you will suddenly get to the point (which is not that far into the film) where you realise that you are entering scenes and watching situations that you have come across with those you work with, once your there the humour starts and never lets up
The 'ice cream' comment has to be the funniest line ever mentioned on the big screen, the disco at the end of the games when the athletes gather round the with the group is sing spot on, but again you got to part of their world to understand where they are coming from and to sit back, laugh out loud and really enjoy it
Not good for loads of folks, certainly not for the weak hearted or the PC brigade, but on the other foot, it's what you make it, which for me total cinema magic!!
