DVD King and Country, 2010-02-22 I fine film from a more refined era, a very sad tale of what happened to many a soldier in the First World War when Battle Schock was not recognised and the condition was treated as cowardice in the face of the enemy, Dirk Bogart the defending army officer and Tom Cortney as the poor accused soldier, a great film.

Can't recommend this more!, 2010-05-26 One weekday evening a few years ago, I rented the first series of The Inbetweeners from my local video shop. I had to be up early for work the next day so I was only planning to watch an episode or two to see what the fuss was about. I ended up staying up until the early hours of the morning and watching all six episodes in a row.
Sort of a cross between The Peep Show and American Pie, The Inbetweeners is without a doubt one of the funniest TV shows out at the moment. The show centres around four teenage boys who are no longer children but not quite adults (in other words "inbetween"). Like anyone else their age, they spend their days unsuccessfully chasing girls, trying to get into house parties/nightclubs, fretting about exams and trying to get served at the off licence/local pub. Although it's not quite as realistic as a fly-on-the-wall documentary, many of the things that pre-occupy Will, Simon, Neil and Jay, pre-occupy any lad who has ever been 16, 17, 18 or 19 years old. But not only does the show have it's finger on the pulse of Britain's youth, it also makes you laugh in every way possible. There's big belly laughs that cause tears to stream down your face and your ribs to ache ("Feisty one, you are!"); there's laughs that stay with you and still manage to crack you up months later when you remember them ("Bus w**kers!"); and there are laughs to be had over and over when you quote them to your mates ("Ooo, fwend!").

This paranoia-fuelled thriller, more intelligent and imaginative than you would have reason to believe, owes a huge debt to The Stepford Wives with its premise of a goody-good high school clique programmed by an evil doctor to be wholesome, academically driven and shining examples of clean living. Unlike its predecessor, though, David Nutter's film opts to open up its premise for everyone to see, diluting the scares but amplifying the creepy atmosphere. There's never any question of what's happening to the students of Cradle Bay High, who go from being druggies and sex fiends to the academically excellent Blue Ribbons, but it's a lot of fun to see these programmed teens run amok--and start killing people--when their hormones kick in. And considering they're all horny teenagers, this happens, oh, at least a few times a day. Model-perfect James Marsden, with stunning cheekbones and piercing blue eyes, is the new kid in town who stumbles on the plot with a little help from metalhead Nick Stahl. Moody Marsden stirs up trouble when he refuses to join up with the Blue Ribbons, prompting his concerned parents to consider signing him up for the program, especially after it turns Sta...
Why so much negativity?, 2009-11-15 I bought this on VHS (I know!!), I cant remember why I did, but I was pleasntly surprised and still throw it on now and again. As many have stated at the very least this showcases young talent in early roles. That aside the story is based on paranoia, peer presures, sexual desires and growing up; all in just the right mix. In no place does the film substitute one for another to make up for shortcomings in the plot without aiming to achieve a desired effect (yes theres the katie holmes introduction but in fairness its intentional). It has the typical teen clique issue but enjoyable, I guess the music references help make it a little more relateable and fun, add an extra side to it.
At its heart, the plot feels like an old school sci-fi movie growing up in the '90s. And done well. I guess its a teenage stepford wives of sorts with a small dash of horror. Not as polished or uber cool as the Faculty, but cool all the same.
fun reasons to watch:
1. Cyclops is in it
2. John Conner is in it
3. Flagpole sitta by Harvey Danger
4. Katie holmes

Hilarious, 2010-04-29 I love the Inbetweeners, its so funny, although a little explicit. Series 2 made me laugh many times, such as when they are stuck in the boat and they catch a fish. 'And say what? Help, we've caught a fish, we're only in the harbour, what are they going to do, tow us 4 feet closer to the shore!' made me laugh so much, Simon Bird (Will) is a really good actor. Another example is when they use hair removal cream to take away Wills pubes, but he has a date and wants them back, so Simon suggests to use a wig. If you are considering buying it, do as you won't regret it :)

Surprisingly Good, 2009-12-15 This was a surprisingly good series. The basic premise is pretty standard - new fresher starts at bland university, gets into ridiculous sitcom style scrapes - but it was executed very well and had a slightly surreal / depraved edge that anyone who likes Family Guy and the like would appreciate. The acting in particular was very good. I highly recommend giving it a try.
