Honest, 2010-02-25 I've been a fan of the series for quite some time, something of a guilty pleasure. The individual box sets come with better and prettier presentation in their cardboard cases, however the plastic amaray that are supplied with this box set are far from a reason to avoid this box set. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and for the bargain price offered and I would advise any fan of the show to purchase without a second thought. OK so it doesn't include the specials (The next Doctor, Planet of the dead, Waters of Mars, End of Time) Neither do the individual series box sets. Don't give it a second thought- if your a fan this is the set for you. After buying my copy I purchased another 2 for gifts, both of which have been very, very well received.

There were a few moments in the third season of the revived Doctor Who when you begin to wonder if the bubble has burst. A couple of tepid Dalek episodes, and a handful of forgettable stories, make you begin--perhaps for the first time since the show’s revival--whether it’s already hits its peak. But never underestimate the new Doctor Who. For the back run of series three is as good as anything that’s gone before it, with ingenious plotting, the clever layering of elements it casually--nah, crucially--refers to later on, and some quite superb individual episodes. It not only restores any hint of lost faith, it sets the bar even higher. Examples? The stunning single story Blink is extremely clever, genuinely scary and has immense rewatch value. While the equally strong double-header of Human Nature and The Family Of Blood is a two-parter in the traditional Doctor Who way, building up its story in a measured and really effectively creepy way. Then there’s the finale. Presenting the Doctor with one of his finest, most ingenious villains makes for quite brilliant television (albeit with a slightly underwhelming concluding episode),...

Required Viewing for History Buffs, 2009-11-23 It is a tragedy that The Devil's Whore was never made as it was originally intended, in its full extended version. As it is, it is a flawed masterpiece.
The irritating signs of violent editing, to squeeze the story into four paltry episodes (events jump by as much a 3-4 years at a time) is more than made up for by the vivid characterisation of one woman's rite of passage to emancipation and graphic portrayal on the only full-blown revolution the UK has ever experienced.
Gratifyingly absent is the saccarine overlay of Cavalier romanticism of previous TV series like By The Sword Divided.
The characters portrayed on the Parliamentary side - Cromwell, Rainsborough, 'Free-born' John Lilburne - are terrifying and admirable at the same time, advocating ideas centuries ahead of their time (universal sufferage, equal rights for women) and attempting to yank the conservative population of England into the modern age, whether it wanted to or not. Who'd have ever thought a popular TV series would make popular characters of The Levellers and The Diggers?
This is absolutely required viewing for anyone who wants the real story of the English Civil War, free of the naive simplicities of 1066 and all that!!

Fantastic, 2010-02-07 I've absolutely loved this series. Gene Hunt has to be one of the finest characters created for tv. The period details are great. Best of all are the hilarious car chases in Hunt's Cortina, and, of course the fight scenes!
If you haven't seen it before - highly recommended

Love it, 2010-02-27 This is possibly one of my best TV shows, the comedy value, when you watch this in stunning almost arousing sharpness and quality then it feels better than watching the 480p downloads that people put up 4 years ago when this was aired, this has 2 dual layer blu-rays inside all put in 5.1 on some episodes its pointless on others its affective Eg the first episode when he thinks hes going insain in the medical room, good buy Love it cheep and stunning.

Brilliant Policing, 2010-02-27 Series 1 and 2 are absolutely brilliant reflections of policing and attitudes at the time. I should know. I was one. Hyped up a bit for the camera but great fun and entertainment and a good laugh to boot.

How Policing should be?, 2010-02-24 I missed most of 'Life on Mars' when it was on TV. I caught 2 episodes and it was enough to convince me to buy the series when it was released on DVD. At the price offered by Amazon, who could refuse?
Anyhow, if you are bored with the Cop shows from the USA and think 'The Bill' is boring AND you are old enought to remember the good-old-days of 'The Sweeney' then this is for you.
A well written and acted piece of television that makes the licence fee worth paying: Thank the Lord for the BBC!
In todays overly 'PC' world this is a thoughtful, entertaining and humerous plunge into another, forgotten, world where the 'Old Bill' get the job done the way the public wants it done. All throught the eyes of a modern "copper".
Isn't this how Policing should be? Enjoy!

An absolutely superb thriller, 2010-02-08 I hate conspiracy theories. They are crass and stupid so most political thrillers tend to become at best ludicrous. But this is superb. A taut intelligent drama which keeps you guessing without ever getting silly.
After the death of a young political researcher and the gunning down of a teenager and courier in London the press kick in to action. Reporter Cal McCaffrey (Jon Simm) is the old friend and political agent of Government Junior Minister Stephen Collins (Morrissey) the researcher's boss. Morrissey is working on a report into the oil industry and a big oil company looms ever present in the background as a sinister but largely unseen adversary. McCaffrey finds evidence which links the murders and the researcher's death but as he begins to join the dots much more begins to fall out of the cupboard including his own feelings for Collins' wife. At the same time a hitman remains on the loose and the police on the warpath when they realise that the newspaper has been withholding information.
The two central performances are excellent as is the tension between two old friends who need each other but don't necessarily like each other that much anymore. All of the characters have depth and the complex relationships within the newspaper offices are particularly good. Bill Nighy's editor's disdain for James McAvoy's cub reporter is especially good. So often these kind of relationships are just pointless tack ons but here they really work as does the transformation of Kelly MacDonald's character after she realizes how much danger she's placed herself in.
If you enjoy thrillers, have more than a five minute attention span and don't require big explosions throughout then I heartily recommend this.
