leaves me wanting more, 2010-05-30 Well this was an impulse buy and I'm so glad I did get it. Quirky, different, entertaining, well conceived drama - this is one of the most enjoyable things I've watched in a long, long time. given the convoluted story line the good acting and characterisation pulls everything together well and maintains interest. Indeed on many occasions I just kept on watching episode after episode.

Bully, the third feature film from photographer-turned-director Larry Clark, follows the pattern laid down by his debut movie Kids: deploring the amoral fecklessness of today's American teens while lingering (some might say gloating) over their naked bodies--or at least, the naked bodies of the better-looking ones. The plot's based on a real-life murder case that took place in Florida in 1994. High school teenagers Bobby Kent and Marty Puccio have been best friends from infancy--or so Bobby insists. But their friendship consists of Bobby bullying and humiliating Marty. Marty's new girlfriend Lisa decides this has to stop--especially after Bobby rapes her and her friend Lisa. Bobby, she announces, must be killed. She ropes in a few friends to help--none of them over-endowed with brains or savvy--and recruits a supposed "Mafia hitman" who's scarcely any older or brighter than the rest of them. Though there's an air of moral condemnation hanging over the film, Clark avoids any obvious "society's to blame" angles. His killers are from middle-class homes, not noticeably deprived, and their parents (one of them played by Clark himself) are well-meaning if helplessly unaw...

Returning for a third bout of cyborg time travelling, Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his good-robot role from TERMINATOR 2, once again travelling back from the future to protect future human resistance leader John Connor (played this time around by Nick Stahl). We soon discover that Connor has become something of a drifter, his mother Sarah Connor has passed away, and he has taken to the road in order to preserve himself for his supposed destiny. When Connor breaks into a lab to score some painkillers, he unwittingly runs into his future belle Kate Brewster (Claire Danes), and a whole load of titanium-plated-trouble in the form of a hot female Terminator played by newcomer Kristanna Loken. Hell-bent on destroying Connor, Brewster, and anyone else that gets in her way, Loken's Terminator comes face to face with Schwarzenegger's Terminator leading to some epic battles between the two cyborgs, and a neat string of one-liners from Schwarzenegger. Director Jonathan Mostow (U-571) clearly relishes upping the CGI ante for this explosive sequel, providing some no-holds-barred action sequences. Mostow also offers intriguing storylines continued from the previous tw...

Great roadtrip movie, 2009-04-12 Sleepwalking is a really engaging road trip movie. I enjoyed it enormously, largely thanks to the acting talents of Charlize Theron and Annasophia Robb. If you like good characters and a simple road trip theme as a way of exploring relationships I think you'll enjoy this too.

This paranoia-fuelled thriller, more intelligent and imaginative than you would have reason to believe, owes a huge debt to The Stepford Wives with its premise of a goody-good high school clique programmed by an evil doctor to be wholesome, academically driven and shining examples of clean living. Unlike its predecessor, though, David Nutter's film opts to open up its premise for everyone to see, diluting the scares but amplifying the creepy atmosphere. There's never any question of what's happening to the students of Cradle Bay High, who go from being druggies and sex fiends to the academically excellent Blue Ribbons, but it's a lot of fun to see these programmed teens run amok--and start killing people--when their hormones kick in. And considering they're all horny teenagers, this happens, oh, at least a few times a day. Model-perfect James Marsden, with stunning cheekbones and piercing blue eyes, is the new kid in town who stumbles on the plot with a little help from metalhead Nick Stahl. Moody Marsden stirs up trouble when he refuses to join up with the Blue Ribbons, prompting his concerned parents to consider signing him up for the program, especially after it turns Sta...
Why so much negativity?, 2009-11-15 I bought this on VHS (I know!!), I cant remember why I did, but I was pleasntly surprised and still throw it on now and again. As many have stated at the very least this showcases young talent in early roles. That aside the story is based on paranoia, peer presures, sexual desires and growing up; all in just the right mix. In no place does the film substitute one for another to make up for shortcomings in the plot without aiming to achieve a desired effect (yes theres the katie holmes introduction but in fairness its intentional). It has the typical teen clique issue but enjoyable, I guess the music references help make it a little more relateable and fun, add an extra side to it.
At its heart, the plot feels like an old school sci-fi movie growing up in the '90s. And done well. I guess its a teenage stepford wives of sorts with a small dash of horror. Not as polished or uber cool as the Faculty, but cool all the same.
fun reasons to watch:
1. Cyclops is in it
2. John Conner is in it
3. Flagpole sitta by Harvey Danger
4. Katie holmes

A slow-burning, brooding movie that credits its audience with intelligence and patience, In the Bedroom starts deceptively calmly but builds to a climax of shattering desolation. Actor Todd Field's debut as a director, the film is set in a small coastal town in Maine, home of pleasant middle-class couple Matt and Ruth Fowler and their college-age son Frank. Frank, an adored only child, has started an affair that disquiets his mother; his lover, Natalie, is a lovely woman but a few years older than Frank, with two children, and her estranged rich-kid husband has a very mean streak. Even in this peaceful, well-ordered community, something extremely nasty might happen, and suddenly, shockingly, it does. It's not the pivotal act of violence but its aftermath that gives the movie its full impact. Field and his coscreenwriter Rob Festinger remorselessly trace the way grief, anger and a thwarted desire for justice can open up rancid cracks in a seemingly placid marriage and turn the most civilised of men to thoughts of murder. And, contrary to Hollywood convention, there's nothing cathartic or redemptive about revenge in this film: the conclusion is bleak. As Ruth, Sissy Spacek...
In the Bedroom beats expectations, 2005-03-27 The Fowler family live an idilic existence in a prosperous New England fishing town, Matt Fowler (Tom Wilkinson) as the local physician, Ruth (Sissy Spacek) teaching music at the local high school, and their only son Frank (Nick Stahl) a talented architect due to leave for College in the fall. Soon, though, it becomes apparent that all is not well in the family as Frank's involvement with Natalie (Marissa Tomei), a beautiful divorcee and mother of two, threatens to split the family. The rows are brought to a head when Richard, Natalie's former husband, becomes violent, beating Frank and threatening Natalie. Frank is drawn at a frightening pace into the world of domestic violence and- in the hesitation to deal with the problem- murdered by a jealous Richard. This is where the film really comes into it's own as his numb parents are left to confront their grief and anger, constantly haunted by a triumphant Richard who is unjustly released on bail and seems sure to avoid a murder charge. The charged emotional intensity of this film is ably supported by superb performances from all of the leading cast, and by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack producing compelling viewing from the beginning to the unexpected end. Highly recommended.

A Great Family Film!, 2010-09-01 I originally saw this film on the television and enjoyed it so much that I bought it so my family could enjoy it too. It is a great family film, lots of adventure and interesting characters. I watched it with my 14 year old son, my partner and my Mum and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I would totally recommend this film if you're looking for something for all ages.

The Terminator The Terminator was the film that cemented Arnold Schwarzenegger's place in the action-brawn firmament, and both his and the movie's subsequent iconic status are well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg that kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and are all the more chillingly effective for it. But don't overlook the contribution of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor, thus creating--along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien--a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. The film's minimalist, malevolent violence is actually scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley, Amazon.com

Another man/boy film? Not really !, 2010-01-29 Excellent addition to your DvD collection. This is a story of friendship in a world that has sexualised every human bond between individuals to its detriment; this is encapsulated in the bigoted attitudes of the towns people and especially the towns officials as Justin McLeod attempts to cope with the past.
He is revitalised in the relationship that develops with his young pupil Chuck Norstadt and begins to live again.
More than just a 'sloppy' story when you focus on the undertone themes, it shows how the world has turned upside down in its views and cynicism
McLeods actions towards Norstadt are summarised in one sentence in the film when he faces his myopic accusers in the town hall office... "It was a moment of....."
