GOOD FILM POOR MARKETING, 2005-01-14 I am convinced that the reason for put-down hostility toward this movie is the same reason why THE LAST KISS did poorly in the USA...misrepresentative trailer and marketing. (in the case of that movie the American distributor sold it as a comedy so American critics were not satisfied with it; while back in Italy the love story was the marketing focus). Back to PERFUME... Remember the film is made first then someone else decides how to present it. The problem is that they establish a specific expectation that can harm an audience's response based upon an inaccurate prior notion of a movie's goal and purpose.I viewed this movie with an open mind and did not watch the trailer until afterward. I enjoyed the film. It is far better than I anticipated. Then I saw the trailer and realised why such loathing was thrown at PERFUME the trailer implies some kind of tabloid scandal expose of the Fashion business. PERFUME is NOT that it is a very good character study. The actors improvised their own dialogue and although I like some characters more than others that is reasonable when dealing with this kind of ensemble. This is also a case of herd opinionism...how PERFUME is dismissed while LOST IN TRANSLATION and BEFORE SUNSET win awards. PERFUME is better than either of those. Yes, maybe this would have done better if made as a TV experiment for SHOWTIME or HBO. Maybe home viewing enables the intimacy better. Either way don't believe the nay-sayers.

The Saga Continues, 2010-06-13 Tremendous series - great character development - and just when you thought that you are on top of the story there is another twist or turn to surprise you. One of the best series ever written for television.

Queen of the Damned combines the plot elements from the two disappointing novels Anne Rice cranked out as the sequels to Interview with the Vampire and contrives to be better than the book it is named after, but not by much. The vampire Lestat (a pale, pretty Stuart Townsend) awakens after a century-long nap and discovers flamboyant metal music, then irritates the vampire community by "coming out" and courting celebrities. His sub-Marilyn Manson songs interest paranormal-watching human librarian Jesse (Marguerite Moreau), who looks him up in a Mile End Goth club that caters for an undead clientele, but his tunes also awaken Akasha (Aaliyah), eponymous mother of all vampires, who makes him her number one disciple and sets about devastating the world, opposed by a cadre of conservative vampires who include Lestat's sire Marius (Vincent Perez) and Jesse's Aunt Maharet (Lena Olin). The plot is of the "one-damn-thing-after-another" variety, zipping about the world from New Orleans to Glastonbury to a huge concert in Death Valley as broody characters exchange solemn but comical dialogue and indulge in fight scenes too swift for the camera to catch. Like Blade 2, ...
despite everything, is a good story, 2010-03-12 If you are able to NOT see the bad style of Akasha walking, and the vocabulary she is using which sounds so stupid, considering that she was a sleep for hundred years, this film is one of the best I seen in a long time. The love story that develops in between Lestat and the librarian is wonderful, the violin sound is so touchy that I keep watching again and again that scene.
The effects are masterpiece and I finally enjoy the heavy metal style of music.
Totally recommended.

Superb movie, 2005-04-06 I didn't know what to expect when I saw this movie, as I was in the middle of a two or three-month stretch of renting out nothing but "hood" movies, most of which were fairly mediocre. Here, though, I wasn't disappointed.I'd never seen Omar Epps in a movie before this one, and I have to admit, I was pretty shocked that such an amazing actor had passed me by without my noticing. His role isn't an easy one to play - it could so easily have been overacted - yet he gives a flawless performance as a troubled man trying to figure out where his loyalties lie. LL Cool J fills out his role very well, making a menacing - if vaguely cliched - drug lord, and Stanley Tucci brings a sense of comfort and lightness as the police chief and Epps' mentor. It is Epps, however, who makes the film. I've since seen other movies with him in, yet this remains one of his best performances. I loved it, my best male friend loved it, my 60-year-old mother loved it. Go watch it. =)

Worth Every Penny!, 2008-04-02 This new Battlestar Galactica 2.5 DVD boxset release is full of special features and bonus material to attract all viewers. The split season format is great. It airs as half seasons on Sci-Fi and they release it to match its airing schedule and system. There are so many special features, you could spend more time watching them then the actual episodes.
One of the greatest bonuses to the set is the much anticipated and greatly debated extended version of the episode `Pegasus' this special version is over an hour and a half long it was not aired in this format due to time constraints. It views like a feature movie. It has amazing special effects and amazing cinematography.
Other features include deleted scenes, which are broken down by episodes, include the producer's podcasts that aired on the Sci-Fi channel's website during the original airings, and the producer's video Logs and much much more. The deletes scenes are broken down episode by episode.
The bonus material, if not ignored, will help viewers better understand the choices made in preparing the episodes and the season for release.
This half of season 2 has many unique twits and turns in the plots and lives of the characters. We are also introduced to new human cylon models. As to the content itself, in this half of season 2 the central character is Sharon, with her actions developed alongside those of (spoiler alert!) those of a few different Cylon version of her. Byond Sharon's development on Batlestar Galactica and Battlestar Pegasus, which is presented as strongly intertwined with the fate of the whole human race, a great deal of the season deals with relationships - Professional and otherwise - and especially friendships. Striking interactions occur between President Roslyn and Commander Adama; in the complicated relationship between Starbuck and Apollo; with Sharon and, well just about everybody.
In the broader scheme of things, by this point in the series the complexities of guiding a free population while trying to avoid the Cylon army has taken it's toll on both military and civilian leaders of this rag-tag group of humans trying to find a new home on a lost planet called Earth.
The excellent character development in this half of the season can be attributed to very strong scriptwriting. The cliffhanger ending leaves you mouth watering and you desperately awaiting season 3 - which hopefully, after snagging this DVD set, you can finally get caught up in watching. The Sci-Fi channel has to date released 4 of 10 web episodes that have story line development between season's 2 and 3. Season 3 begins airing in the US and Canada on October 7th for the first time the episodes will air in both countries at the same time. We here in Canada will not have to wait days, weeks or months for the US show to finally come to Canada.
BSG is often called the best Sci-fi on television and Newsweek has gone so far as to call it the best drama on TV. With such high praise and the series consistently receiving great reviews - not to mention the special features and additions offered in the 2.5 DVD - how could this DVD box set not be worth every penny?
So Say we all.

Great deal, 2009-11-07 Dirt cheap. I combined this with Battlestar Galactica - The Final Season and it has it all. Sure it may not be as flashy as an "ultimate set" but it has everything you need.
All of the discs flow on so the seasons blend in the cases that might be bad for some. They dont overlap on one disc though.
At the end of the day you watch the shows then they gather dust on the shelf.
As I said I brought this and Battlestar Galactica - The Final Season; I got everything at a great price so I'm very happy.
